Data Controls

Last updated: April 2026

Most applications have a data controls page to explain what they do with your data. This page exists to explain that UniFile does nothing with it.

File processing. When you drop a file into UniFile, it is read from your disk, processed in your Mac's memory, and written to your chosen output folder. No copies are made elsewhere. No files are uploaded, cached, or transmitted to any external server. The complete data path is: your disk, your RAM, your disk.

Temporary files. During conversion, the Application may create temporary working directories. These are automatically cleaned up on launch - any stale temporary directories older than one hour are removed. No file data persists beyond the conversion process.

Source file handling. UniFile never modifies or deletes your original files without explicit action. After conversion, you may optionally choose to move the original to the trash. This is entirely user-initiated and off by default.

Output location. Converted files are saved next to the source file by default. You can configure a custom output folder at any time. UniFile does not create hidden directories or scatter files across your system.

Offline operation. UniFile requires no internet connection to function. It operates fully offline - on airplane mode, air-gapped machines, and restricted networks. There is no server to connect to, no license server to ping, and no update check that blocks functionality.
